Hello!

I think, everybody knows it: Round is over, some tables didn't finish the last round and nobody asks you about adjustment. I don't know why not, anyway i would like to adjust the boards. Mostly, everytime the same partnership who is too slow. But you can do nothing against them - beside throwing them out of your tournament. But I don't like it - i throw people only unwillingly out of my tournament.

I would like to have some more functions in BBO. A function, which shows A- scores in my tournament, so i can adjust them easily. Than a function, to warn a table because he played too slow at the last table (A-) and, if it's repeat, to give penalty points.
Everytime you have a bad score (for instance ~20 %), you can play slow and you get 40 %. If your opponents doesn't say anything, nobody recognizes it. And if you do it 2 or more times, you have to be punished for it. And those players can not be punished without giving the opponents an award for that. And that's not fair :-)

What do you think of this advancement? Or it's for you only idiocy?

Sincerely Yours
MorK

wtp? Keep track of unfinished tables and adjust them :P

I do agree, it would be nice to have list of unfinished boards and more clickable options for adjustments and players.

Agree, would be nice to have procedural penalties available.

More flexibility in adjustments would be great.

More flexibility in adjustments would conform to the Laws of Duplicate.

LAW 90 PROCEDURAL PENALTIES

A. Director's Authority

The Director, in addition to enforcing the penalty provisions of these Laws, may also assess penalties for any offense that unduly delays or obstructs the game, inconveniences other contestants, violates correct procedure, or requires the award of an adjusted score at another table.

(90B specifically lists slow play as one of the reasons for giving such a penalty.)

LAW 91 PENALIZE OR SUSPEND

A. Director's Power

In performing his duty to maintain order and discipline, the Director is specifically empowered to assess disciplinary penalties in points or to suspend a contestant for the current session or any part thereof (the Director's decision under this clause is final).

We've been asking for the power to adjust TOTAL scores (as opposed to scores on a board) for some time now. Some TDs abuse the ability to adjust scores, some abuse the ability to keep players out of their tournaments. No doubt this power, if granted, will be one more thing for players to complain about here.

Maybe the solution is to give TDs this power on a limited basis, and force the TDs to post reasons for total score and board score adjustments. An online database might record these reasons and we would see who makes adjustments on reasonable grounds and who doesn't.

It would be great, if a list of unfinished boards would be available (selected by round). I try to keep track of the unfinished tables, but if called to a table, this is often not possible.

Now a TD can only adjust a board to AVE+=- or sub a player. In a lot of cases none of these are covered by the bridge laws. Procedural penalties are coverd by them.
So it would be nice to have them.

Of cause they might be abused, but let's deal "abuse" with it, when it happens.

Yes, of course, it should be possible to reward penalies to a pair indipendently of a specific board, and to assign different scores for N/S and E/W.

In the meantime, many directors, including myself, look at the tournament status frequently at least during the last minute of the round, and remember which tables are still playing. Easy to do the adjustments then. Furthermore, you can visit the the playing tables say 2 minutes before the end, and, if you see a board where they could claim but instead keep thinking, do the adjustment even before the round finishes, thereby enabling the software to compute the correct seating for the next round if it is swiss. If you adjust the last playing table this way, you also trigger the next round by doing so, making everyone else happy.

I do that, too, but i cannot remember or write down all players still playing :-) Sometimes, I finished one minute before the end of the round, too, because somebady had bad connection or it was a very difficult bidding or so :-)

That's maybe a good idea, but does not work in my case, because i play myself in 99 % of my tournaments.

True - you have to remember names if you are playing yourself, but one name per table is sufficient. I agree that life is harder for a playing directory, and this is why I usually do not play in tourneys I direct.

If you do a tournament status (available from the Green Table button) near the end of the round then you can find all the tables still playing. If you do not close this window then after the round has ended you can see the tables that may have not completed the previous round and go to those tables during the next round and view the movie and make adjustments as necessary.

I already said it: Mostly, I'm playing director and can not go to any table, so i have no advantage if i know the tables :-)
I only need the names and write every name down who does not finish any board is very annoying.

Yes, i have to remember one name, but there are at least 2 partnerships (or 4 individual players) who maybe played slow so i have to write them down, too, if i like to know who already played slow in any other round.
But for adjustments, I already do it, but sometimes, i'm also slow, i already said (in case of adjustments for the last round or difficult game or slow opps or bad connection or so), and have no time for write them down.

you can review/adjust boards after play is over, if the tourney is still listed.

Would be helpful, just to ask for a list of unfinished boards then.....

yes, that's right - but very stupid, because if you look then, nobody recognizes anymore the "new result" :-)

This is a very good tip Cascade, as you dont have to note down the playing Tables. I would very much appreciate if this screen is automatically refreshed, say once in 5 seconds. If this is implemented, then Cascade's tip will not be be relevant after the Round Change

So ideally,

1) List the unfinished tables for adjustments ( Deal No & Table No) and if possible Left click from here and do the adjustment , failing which

2) Refresh the "Show status of tourney" window at a predefined Refresh rate so that TD's dont have to keep doing this in the last few minutes ( sometimes it may be not possible, if attending to call at a Table)
