I always thought a splinter by opener was a 4 diamond bid over partner's 1 level response, and a 3 diamond bid (1C-1S-3D) was natural showing a big hand and a good second suit in diamonds.
See https://www.bridgebu.../splinters.php.
I guess robots play splinters differently that I do! Best regards.

2♦ is the strong hand, I assume the seats are switched to make you declarer. (6♠ was the par contract)

Quoting from the page you linked to:
Quote
Since 1C - 1S - 2D and 1C - 1S - 2H are reverse bids and therefore forcing, you never need jumps to Three Diamonds or Three Hearts as natural bids.
GIB doesn't actually play mini-splinters as mentioned by that page, but it does agree with the principle that 3♦ here can never be natural, since 2♦ is unlimited and forcing.
I have nothing worth contributing, bye
