I knew somebody would show up and blame it on me
Sadly you are wrong
It is a 3S vs 3C hand mate
All I did was double their 2C cue bid and pass opening bid and decent clubs that is all
So in all fairness 4C-1 is better than 3S against us but 3C is even better
Apparently half the field made the same mistake as me which is some consolation
I did exaggerate the traveller slightly. That's just how it feels. Only a few managed the overtrick and quite a few were in NT minus 1
It is a mystery and something of a lottery to me. Knowing which of my bids led to the problem
I should do a sample of the traveller and their BBO points and see if there is any correlation at all - I have wasted time on such exercises before
I actually didn't explore the full traveller. I was only looking at the top section - and we always salute the 100 percenter on 3NT at the top
3NT-4 was one of several modal scores
While I was disappointed the above (random) contract still managed 40%
Apparently to get to the reaonsable and optimal modal contract of 3C you have to pass the 2C cue bid. That seems strange to me
Forgive me please for thinking that double seemed a reasonable option
But in all seriousness I get upset when I have judged a hand almost perfectly as a 3C hand (in this case) and am undone
Its like those joke auctions where everyone bids everyone else's suits until the bitter end
And we are bidding (roughly paraphrased) a "simple and natural 2/1 system"
For some reason it makes me think of dueling banjos
But I did put the hand up for reasonable discusssion and not personal attack
So in such a strange and unnatural world you have to somehow learn to play their game for your own safety
Yet another rant and I know I am in strange and alien parts but occasionally a bit of friendliness would not go astray
And as a half competent player I do my best to play the tune
