The bot can use simple arithmetic.
If it's any consolation I made the same blunder yesterday and E doubled with the ♣A.

I think you misread. The point is that the bot is *not* using simple arithmetic - it should be adding its 16 points to your 20 points, coming up with 36, and concluding with 4 missing that you may be off an ace.

But yes, as I mentioned in an earlier thread, one GIB developer said he had a long term goal to make GIB always ask for aces if it were able to before leaping to slam.. but clearly it wasn't trivial as he was never able to do it.

Thinking about it, I have never seen GIB use Gerber.

I have used it a couple of times, so it understands the convention well

If you want to increase the chances of seeing Gerber from North try generating some hands in playbridge.com
As discussed previously GIB will wheel it out sometimes.
Alternatively, play a challenge vs the robot and uncheck the best hand box.
As far as I can see most of the hands you are posting here come from best-hand formats so the poor robots have very little chance of doing anything exciting.

Well, your post is about *you* using Gerber, and the robots responding to it, rather than GIB using it.

As far as I'm aware it's specifically told it can never bid Gerber itself over NT openings (though understands humans can and will respond to it) - it can only bid it itself in three specific situations:

- after 1m - 2N
- after 1x - 1y - 1N
- after 2C - 2N

I have seen a couple of these pop up, though they're very rare.

Also, with 2 balanced hands opposite each other, missing a king means that a grand slam is probably on a finesse which means the grand slam should be avoided.
