I would choose the version that Vul vs NOT shows solid spades and no outside values.
That's the one I chose! However, that's 4♦ in our system. So, it continues:
(p) - 4♦ - (4♥) - 4♠
(p) - ?
Any move over p's free bid?
No.
I will not start guessing on the 5 level.

Hi Justin,
I am not sure I buy, that we are forced to play 4S.
If the stronger version went through 4D, I would agree,
but since it is the weaker version, ... no way.
This will lead to a bloodbath more often, than I am
willing to pay, and they will kill us.
Of course, I dont understand, why the stronger version
should kill more room than the weaker, why this should
be better.
But this is another thread.

Here was the actual hand. East lead the "obvious" heart and partner wrapped up 13 tricks. Spades were 2-1 with singleton King.
Only one pair in the room bid the slam. Not sure it's easy to get there actually.

I would like to play against the pair a long match,
if they always reach those slams, they will loose,
most of the time, a match over 32 boards will suffice.
Originally I wanted to write "play for money", but
if these players were born under a lucky star, I may
got broke, before their lucky streak finished.
Seriously asking "How to reach this slam?" is just ...
With kind regards

2NT void in ♠ (or otherwise useless hand)
3♣ ace ask
4♦ 2 aces, ♦ & higher (must be ♥ in this case)
opener has options to ask voids/kings/queens at this point, in any order, but why bother?

Surelly you meant:
2♣ 9+ trcisk in ♠
4♥ by the opp
X :penalty
pass
???? your guess, good luck.

But you have a 4 losers hand with a first round control in spades and second round controls in all other suits. If partner has any of the missing three aces or the SpK, there is a game in spades. Not having any of them is about 18%. And even if partner doesn't have any of those cards, you can still catch SpK singleton. Your combined chances are at least 80% for a game, and you should try one even with half of that chance.
Passing wins if you reach 4Sp "painfully" so that you play it doubled, but the risk of seeing the hand passed from all the others that would have 10 points is too great.

This is kinda why I chose to open 1♠ and then see what partner and opps do: Maybe I will get some indication of 1) if there's the possibility of partner having enough bullets for us to make slam, and 2) whether it sounds like the opps have good cards, and to see if I can get a sense of whether or to shrug and just bid 4S or if I think I can operate safely here to try to elicit a dbl of 4S. Change my suit to hearts, and I would just open "10, I mean 4 Hearts" lolololololol

Too many tricks for opening 4S. Namyats is ok but like 1S better.
We never know from day to day which ones we'll have to eat.

Partner would know what to do with the rest of the cards, but I dont think the bidding on this one is going to die just because you open 4♦,4♠ or 2♣.
And anything the opps bid at the five level most likelly you will take out insurnace by bidding 5♠

I disagree
opening namyats or 4S is questionable enough (it shows 7 or 8 spades, not 10), but why take partner completely out of the joint decision-making process by opening 5 spades (opening 5 spades does NOT even show this type of hand). Remember the title of the post: Boss suit. When in doubt, you can always out-bid the opps.

You forgot to count points for distribution, let's see: that's 3 for a singleton X 3 = 9, +3 for good declarer play. Or 10 hcp - 2, +11 for combination of two longest suits, +9 for difference between longest and shortest suit, +3 for controls, etc., etc. Dang, you have 3148 pts, definitely enough to bid!
