After oponents open 1NT 2C shows C & a major, I understand this.

If partner after 2C bids 2D is he showing D or is he asking for your M ?

My reasoning says that 2H should be asking for M and 2D says I heard you partner but I have D

HELP thank you

I think your reasoning is the normal expected response structure. But one could also argue for modifying so 2d = asks for major, 2H = my own hearts, I'm not interested in your clubs and spades (if you have hearts can raise), on the basis that majors score better.

Not my favorite defense though. I much prefer pretty much any system that uses 2c for the majors and arrange the other bids however you want. I usually play some variation of a Woolsey defense.

Interesting, I always thought 2 = state your major, 2 = I have hearts and you can stuff it (unless you also have hearts) was the default treatment. It's rarely worth showing my own diamonds over partner's clubs, especially since it gives the opponents an extra opportunity to coordinate a double or bid. Also if partner bids 2 and I have some values in hearts I would much prefer a forcing bid asking for a major to a pass/correct in my own values.

The normal method is for 2M to be pass/correct and 2 to show diamonds. There are players that switch it but that is non-standard and requires an agreement beyond just "Meckwell over SNT".
