BPO-003B: 2S

East just made a vulnerable 2C overcall in a non-fit auction. While its true that the vulnerability favors E-W, East should still have decent values for this action. Holding AKxxxx and out East would bid 3C which actually uses up some bidding spaces. The combination of East's strength and our own clearly suggests that partner holds a weak hand with long Diamonds. Throw in the fact that we hold xxx in Cubs (the worst possible holding) and I'm not feeling enthusiastic about game. I'm going to bid a simple 2S. Please note that the free bid does not show extra strength and can be passed. It merely shows some shape. I'll pass a 3D advance and force game if partner shows strength.

I voted for 3

I know it's borderline (not a great suit) but this is IMP's and with the interference, I think all partner's points will be useful and I want to give him the best description as I can.

Imo, 2 shows 6 and no extra even if it's a free bid

3S, but I needed to look at my mail send to elianna, hopefully
I have spelled her name correct :) .
This indicates, at least for me, that it is close, but I do not need much,
and I want to send an encouraging signal to partner.

With kind regards

I don't like the 3 small 's. But still 3 : partner does not need a lot to make 4. I don't want to miss this vuln game.
If partner has:
Ax
Qxxx
xxxx
xxx
Then 4 has good changes and even after we bid 3 we will not reach it.

2Sp is too weak, 3Sp would be a somewhat pointless invitation. This is IMPs so why not cross fingers, knock on wood, and bid 4Sp.

I voted for 3S, but I'm not happy with it. Perhaps 2S is better, but I really like Helene's suggestion.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

3 - the value bid. I don't like my xxx, but anything else is masterminding.

hehe, some like 2S some like 4S... to me that suggests 3S is pretty good on values.

I care about the friends I have made on BBO. Also, I am extremely concerned about the environment/ ecology/ wildlife/ the little planet that we call Earth. How much more of the world's habitat and food supply for animals do we plan on destroying. How many more wetlands are we going to drain, fill, and build on? How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

2 1/2 spades is my bid!

I voted for Double (of course)
not penalty as was determined in a previous BPO hand, but card-showing, then rebidding spades. club holding is not very good, whatever clubs P has are being led through. I need some spade support over there: basically need 2 tricks and to be able to avoid a spade loser, or 3 tricks from P

Well you have a little company. I also voted 3.

Ugh. The death holding in clubs. Unless partner can find a raise I don't think we're due much. Is 2S too much of an underbid?

Oh, well, Underbid is my middle name.....better than Hortence, anyway.

LOL. when i commented on this hand i thought i had 7 spades...wow...i said i was underbidding with 3S because of the club holding with a normal 4S bid...OK wow. Well I'd still bid 3S but my comments arent applicable :P

That was my choice at first, but then I got too worried about partner insisting on diamonds... Maybe I should have stayed with it!
