Scoring: IMP

1♠ - (5♦) - 5♠ - (6♦)
?

What are your agreements here? Is pass forcing?

What is your call?

Does it make any difference if you are playing limited opening bids?

I think pass should probably be forcing but I could be convinced otherwise. Anyways, I will pass

The only agreement I think will be a concensus is that we won't want to play against these guys the second half.

I hate these kinds of problems. I'm so much better than I could be. Pard cannot know about all the controls and the void...may suspect, but can't know. This is in no way a forcing auction at these colors. Pard may really have stretched to find a bid.

I'm taking out some insurance at these colors; could this not be a double slam swing?

I bid 6H, just in case pard holds.

A very succesful rubber bridge player told me once you cant force a player who has done nothing but pass or raise, so although partner is likely to do something if i pass, it isnt certain. Six hearts sounds a lot like a grand slam try, and my weak spades scare me for that bid. I bid 6 spades (hopefully in tempo)

Pass, forcing (hopefully)

I hate high level decisions!

If I have read the vunlnerability correctly, opponents have made a vulnerable overcall at the 5 level and partner has supported my opening bid non-vulnerable.

To me this is not a forcing pass. Unfortunately, though, I am surprisingly strong for the auction, so I wish it were.

My guess is that partner bid 5♠ as a two-way shot with a weakish hand and long spades (probably 6 of them). I don't think 6♠ will make but I don't think 6♦ will either, so I'm going to double.

I fear partner will lead the ♠A which might blow a trick on defense but hey, it's only a game.

Did I tell you that I hate high level decisions?

I think pass is not forcing and it's time for a forward double. (Maybe I decided to play forward doubles after I saw my hand  ).

i don't know if pass is forcing or not, but it'd be nice on this hand... i don't like doubling with the void, partner should make that decision.. however, if my pass isn't forcing he probably won't...

i guess i'll double here, because of the vulnerability and because pard might pass if i do (and hope we didn't have slam)

Pass isn't forcing (though I'd quite like it to be here).
I will bid 6S; I don't think I've got enough for a grand try (could be wrong).

Maybe I'm getting influenced by history, but I've had some bad results recently from not bidding on in this sort of auction and no good ones. I've also had some good results from the opponents not bidding on (including being + 3 imps for +1310 when they didn't lead their ace. And slam was also making the other way!).

And the wonderful hand where team-mates voluntarily bid to 6S (could have played in 4S), found a foul lie and went two off, were a little embarrassed about this until they found we were +1610.

Maybe it'll be right to defend some day...

Scoring: IMP

1♠ - (5♦) - 5♠ - (6♦)
6♠ - All Pass

Rightly or wrongly I bid 6♠ as insurance. West lead the K♦ and I shed a club. When West got in with the ♠A he decided to lead a club and that was enough to make the contract. If he simply gets off the endplay with a spade I'm stuffed.

At the other table the auction was:

1♠ - P! - 4♠ - P
P - 5♦ - 5♠ - All Pass

Our teammates also misdefended for -480. Par on the deal is actually 6♦X - 1 for +200 NS. Tough game!

I gave this deal for fun at the uni regular session and at one table the result was 6♦ tick and 5♦ tick. At both tables there was a spade lead ruffed in dummy and a small heart lead. At both tables South rose with the Ace and this should lead to 13 tricks made. Unfortunately both declarers pitches a heart on the opening lead and one of the declarers actually failed to discard a club on the winning heart.

I care about the friends I have made on BBO. Also, I am extremely concerned about the environment/ ecology/ wildlife/ the little planet that we call Earth. How much more of the world's habitat and food supply for animals do we plan on destroying. How many more wetlands are we going to drain, fill, and build on? How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

my empathy for your decision to bid 6S at imps. You can afford small swings but not large ones.
problem is, i never get the good fortune that you had with that crub shift. Please send some of that good fortune my way
