An advertising to play X = spades and 1S = negative dbl (probably w/o stopper) over 1m - 1 red. To have overcaller as much as possible on lead.

The « textbook » ad has a layout where you make 6 from one hand and fail 4 from the other (Jx facing AQTxx, lose first 3 tricks and the 4th uppercuts you).

South African Texas is irrelevant. Regular Texas does the same thing.

As for having to open 1D, we play an italian treatment where 2H shows 6+ spades and invitational or better values, which would accomplish the same thing. Double of 1H shows 4+ spades, but if as many as 6, then less than invitational.

When we played the hand, in a match in which we got crushed, south didn’t bid over my 1N, and partner used Texas to get us to the cold, from my side, 4S.
