It's a very good 4♠ game,you can get to there by 2NT if you don't like gambling raise.

Transfer advances aren't bad, I used them over 2♠-P for a while.

Lacking that agreement, I wondered if the auction might go 2♠-X-XX-3♣, P-P-3♠-P, 4♠-AP.

It does work. The transfer allows you, as usual, to bid several hand types in the same way, thus economizing space. For instance..

2♠ 3♣ (diamonds)
3♦ pass = "my suit is better than your moth-eaten 5 carder"

2♠ 3♣
3♦ 3♠ = game invitation with diamond values

2♠ 3♣
3♦ 3♥ = strong 55 in the reds

2♠ 3♣
3♦ 4♠ = slam invitation with diamond values

2♠ 3♣
3♦ 3NT = invites opener to go on with fitting diamond values

2S X 4S = Let opps guess whether I am strong or weak. Don't help with the opening lead. With my minor suit values over the dbler, this should have good chances.

all of those nice controls makes just bidding 4S reasonable unless P can have a yuk.
