Our virtual club wants to set up a "pro-am" game, in which we pair in advance a skilled player (the pro) with a lesser skilled player (the am). These pairs would then play in an open game in our virtual club game. The problem is how to set up the game so that only the pro-am players play in the game. We will certainly advertise it via email among our club players, but it seems there is always a pair that doesn't get the word. When we played f2f at our club, we could just inform the pair who showed up that we were having a special game and they couldn't play that day. However, online the unknowing pair could sign up to play. All I could do as a Director is to ask them to cancel their entry. If they refuse, there is not much more to do. Any suggestions on how to easily set up a game that restricts entry to the selected pro-am pairs?

Create a custom list for your tournament (found under Entries) and populate it with eligible names. Anyone not on the list will be unable to register.

These types of games were very popular in our Unit offline, we ran four a year using 11-round Web movements so all could play the same 22 boards with a post-game discussion. The only real way to do it on BBO would be if tournament setup could include an option to restrict masterpoint levels for inviters and invitees separately, so that North/East would be >200 and South/West would be <300 (the overlap allows for the common situation where you have more of one group than the other). Currently there is not such an option, so you are at the mercy of people doing the right thing.

Please come back to the live game; I directed enough online during COVID for several lifetimes.
