If you want to try version 4.2.8 (in which BBO uses speech in various places) and if you do not have Windows XP, you will have to download and install some Microsoft software that is used to synthesize speech.

I have made a setup program that attempts to do this, but I have only been able to test it on 3 PCs. It seems to work fine, but I need more people to try it.

Note: Please do not try this if you are running Windows XP!

You can download my setup program through the following link. Make sure you open the file after you download it - just downloading it will have no effect. This file is about 6MB in size:

Click here to install Microsoft's speech software!

If you get an error message that says something about your version of Windows Installer being out of date, you can update your software through:

Click here to update your Windows Installer!

I think that if you do everything right, you will then be able to see the new Voice button when you are running version 4.2.8 of BBO.

If you run into any problems, please post here or send me an e-mail: fred@bridgebase.com

Thanks Fred, this worked perfect. Running the MSI failed, but I went into the control panel, and used add/remove programs to execute the MSI, and everything is working now. This was my WinME machine, I'll try my Win98 machine later.

Tested on Win98, had to install the speech software, double-clicking on the MSI worked fine, installed well, and speech now working great on Win98.

Thanks for the links Fred.

Sorry - I didn't name the thread very well.

The more people using the more operating systems the better. Hope there is someone with Windows 95 out there :)

  • Interests:My personal interests are my family and my friends. I am extremely concerned about the lives and futures of the kids (and their families) that I work with. I care about the friends I have made on BBO. Also, I am extremely concerned about the environment/ ecology/ wildlife/ the little planet that we call Earth. How much more of the world's habitat and food supply for animals do we plan on destroying. How many more wetlands are we going to drain, fill, and build on? How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?
