as a new player on this section of BBO (JUST DECLARE), i played a hand and received 10 points. what does this mean and how do i know how i did against all of the other players? thanks

I checked our records and you haven't played in any tournaments. Also, with a few exceptions, free games don't award any points.
Are you talking about the anonymous Just Declare game that you can get to from the home page? These are not duplicate bridge, your score is just total points. So if you make 3♠ on board 1, and then go down 1 vulnerable on board 2, that's 140-100 for a total score of 40.

There is no way to score 10 points on a single hand in anonymous Just Declare. Your score is cumulative for the boards since you started your session. There is a leaders scoreboard on the right side (windows) that has the top 9 scores for players online. If they leave the game, they get removed from the leader board. The scores reflect how long you have been playing, and how many game and slam contracts came up while you were playing. Players start at different times, and play at different speeds so there is no way to tell how well you played compared to others just by looking at the leaderboard.
