Hello,

Aiming to setup a Teams match, for 4 pairs from our face-to-face Bridge Club to play. Under options it has then number of boards, if it says 8, does that mean you will get 8 boards then pairs swap and you get another 8 to complete the match, or does 8 mean you will get 4 boards then pairs swap and you get another 4 to complete the match?

Please could anyone advise.

On BBO you have to set up a separate match in order for the pairs to swap.

As Vampyr says, BBO does not swap partnerships in team matches. By default you just play 8 boards against one other pair.

The concept of swapping pairs is usual in many countries, unheard of in others, and some have different criteria (eg losing team has seating rights). When originally implementing team matches BBO took the simplest option, no swap, and has never introduced any alternative and I suspect this is for a couple of reasons:

• No-one has ever asked. Prior to this current crisis and the influx of players, I'd never seen the concept of swapping pairs in a team match mentioned.
• The typical BBO user does not like to wait around. The concept of waiting around for the other table to finish before starting the second half is an anathema and so BBO would need to be convinced that this is a 'good thing'.

I think the increase in demand will get BBO's attention but I doubt it will be near the top of the list of enhancements being requested.

We are also in need for this.

We play weekly, 24 boards, 4 pairs, rotating pairings, 3 rounds of 8 boards.

round 1: pairs 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4.
round 2: 1 vs 3, 2 vs 4
round 3: 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3.

this means that everyone sits at the table against everyone.

It also balances the strength in a way. so you are not doomed depending on what pair you are matched with. (except the marginal effect of what boards is played against whom)

Since we started using BBO, we could not set it up conveniently, and consequently, we had to change our play structure.

So if setting up a 3 rounds team game would be possible, it would be highly appreciated!

It IS possible to do this, but you have to be very careful how you enter the names. You will create a separate 8-board team match for each "round". I find it easier to think in terms of rotating teammates, since you specify the TEAMS when you enter names, rather than positions at specific tables. Here's how I do it:

Team Match 1: For Team 1, enter Pair 1 as NS, Pair 2 as EW. For Team 2, enter Pair 3 as NS, Pair 4 as EW.
Team Match 2: For Team 1, enter Pair 1 as NS, Pair 3 as EW. For Team 2, enter Pair 4 as NS, Pair 2 as EW.
Team Match 3: For Team 1, enter pair 1 as NS, Pair 4 as EW. For Team 2, enter Pair 2 as NS, Pair 3 as EW.

You must pay attention to the NS vs EW directions given above. At the end of the day, every pair will have played against every other pair as opponents, and every pair will have been teammates with every other pair.
