Connection lost before loading convention cards

This is my grandfather's account. I'm not familiar with the software. When I try to log-in his account, it says "Player list is loading. Please wait", I have to wait for at least 2 minutes. Afterwards, it says "Updating convention cards" and after 1 minute wait, it gives a connection error and disconnects. I don't know what the problem is and how I can solve it.

My grandfather can't play right now and I really want to help.

You must be using the original Windows download version. This version was very inefficient in its use of the network, it downloaded enormous amounts of information when you logged in. Since the coronavirus, this amount has tripled.

You should use the web version, not that application, which is no longer supported. Go to www.bridgebase.com and login from there.
