How do I do an alert before my rho bids? it seems I can only alert after the RHO has already bid.

Fill in the ALERT BOX above your bid, before you bid.

Thanks. I got it. So Its the bidder is the one who makes the alertable bid who initates the alert.
So does the alertable bidder write a description or is just Alert good enough.

Yes, you only alert your own calls rather than your partner's calls - self-alerting.

I think it is always important to alert your call first, so click the Alert button before you click on the suit (or no trump or double or redouble or pass) to complete the call. At least LHO will know that it is an alertable call before doing anything.

If you can put a very brief explanation, then it is better if you can do this especially if it is an alert likely to be misunderstood. You can click on any call you've already made to enter an explanation and you can click on any opponent's call to request one.
