What in the world was this GIB bid?

I'm not 100% sure of the sequence but I think it went (I was opener):

G Me G G
P 1S 2x 2S

I double checked the meaning of 2S for point range and to my surprise, gib reported 6+C. I thought that's crazy sauce so I bid as if it was a regular spade raise. Then the hands come down and sure enough gib has a stiff spade and 6 clubs.

What happened????

Without seeing the hand records, it's hard to say, but I'd be surprised if that was the actual auction.
