The ACBL is a not-for-profit and is and has some responsibilities for financial disclosure. Regretfully, the link to its financial statements on the ACBL web page is broken, so its difficult to know whats/what.

The best information that I have is taken from Johnathan Steinberg's web page.

At the end of 2004, ACBL assets were $7,350,000, compared to $7,150,000 the previous year. The net 200K increase was attributed to robust attendence at major tournaments.

Nonprofit organizations frequently make profits.

They just don't have to pay taxes.

Most non profits in usa also publish their annual reports. I looked but was unable to find a link at acbl.com site.

www.guidestar.org (free registration) has some details on what they've been spending it on, but latest report is 2003, not 2004. Last year's report shows ACBL with a loss anyway. Large mgt expense. :)

generally they have to publish and make public those records....Now they may be nonprofit but there are alot of people who make a living off of the ACBL. Look at the girl scouts somewhere there is some CEO taking home $200, 000 year in a nice high rise somewhere. I dont know what their employees make but they do have assessts and we could say they are in the business of Selling Masterpoints
