I have the opinion that the following auction shows 4S by the final doubler:

(1H) X (1S) X

If I have 5+ spades I'd bid 2S. How else do you counter the psychic 1S?

All three of my teammates this weekend consider the final double 'responsive', showing equal length in the minors.

What do you think?

I agree. But not just to counter psyches, I think that using the double to show four spades AND values is the best way to describe your hand to partner.

I think it's something you need to explicitly discuss. General expectation appears to be moving from your view to your teammates' view over the past few years, IMO largely fuelled by the reduced number of psyches. For what it's worth, I prefer your way when I get to choose. But I seem to be giving in to partners here more and more. Luckily few people psyche these days, so we only lose out when we want to play in the suit with a 4-1 break rather than having it stolen when they break 3-2 as well.

I live in a happy/boring land where pysches are forbidden, so this shows both minors and denies both a hearts stop and the remaining spades.

Thanks to those who took time to respond.

I have asked a lot of people my original question and found an interesting correlation about who gives which answer.

The players who are 'expert' respond with this shows spades or similar. Non-experts all state the double is responsive!

So I imagine I'll have to assess which type of partner I have when I make this double if I haven't discussed this auction previously with them.

This apples unless the non-expert has played with or in the company of experts and then the non-expert will says the double shows spades (discovered when I ask why they respond in that way).

Then why do you post on a forum that is specifically about bridge? Perhaps there is a forum for tha game you play.
