Hi,

I played the following hand in a recent "Free Daylong Tournament (IMP)": https://tinyurl.com/yxyu7y77

I was South, and was stuck for a bid facing the 1 overcall.

- 1 is alerted as "9 - 13 Total points" and is non-forcing. I've tried underbidding only 1M in a similar situation with such a GF hand, and it was passed, understandably.
- 2 is "Twice rebiddable hearts; 14+ total points". The strength is right, but the bid clearly requires 6+ hearts, since GIB can jump to 4 with a small heart doubleton.
- 2 (cue-bid) shows a diamond fit.
- 3NT is possible but clearly not great, especially at IMPs.
- I don't know what 3 or 3 mean, but I doubt that's the way to go.
- (edit) I don't know what 2NT means, either.

What do you think?

Thanks and regards,
Ozymandias

This is a good problem since it’s hard to get GIB to bid again when you respond to his overcall with a new suit. I’m not crazy about 2H but the same could be said about the other options, such as 1H or 2NT. You chose a good title for your post.

With no fit with partner’s diamonds I suppose an underbid of 1H or 2N would be o.k., even though it’s vul IMPs.

Let’s see what the panel says.
