Cross-IMPs, green vs red.

You play weak NT with 5cM, so this sequence from partner shows 15-17, denies 5 cards in any suit other than clubs and denies 4 hearts.

Are you interested in finding a 5-3 heart fit, or do you just want to play 3NT?

I'd make a NMF bid GF, if available.

Playing 2/1 with 5cM, weak NT normally in a field where strong NTs prevail, we play 2 way NMF so 2 shows invitational, 2 shows GF. (Jumps to 3 of a minor over the 1 NT rebid are signoffs.)

So 2 would be the bid.

Opener can make a descriptive bid (support first). We also have a proviso that a jump to 3 NT over 2 shows 3 of the bid major in some kind of a 4-3-3-3 hand. Leaving responder to pass or correct as seems right.

Textbook action is to checkback or whatever method you use.

But danger in 4H is a 4-1 split, creating trump losers while making 9 tricks in NT are ok. The danger in 3NT could be the S (especially if the NT rebid denies 4 spades too, in which case, the likelihood of a 5-3 H increases), that I would ruff to stop opponents cashing winners in 4H.

Over a strong NT opening, I’d just use Stayman to find a 5-4 fit, or get reassured about S. Even if partner denies 4S, he can still have Qxx or Kxx. So I’ll just put the H6 below my « other » D’s when tabling dummy at 3NT😉

Thanks. I used checkback as well, found the 5-3 fit in hearts, and went one off when partner had Tx JTx AQxx AKJx. -8 xIMPs with half the field in 3NT and one pair somehow making 4H. The reason I was asking was because maybe the hearts being so weak justifies playing in 3NT rather than 4H, but like apollo1201, I was worried about the spades.
