Just in the last few days, a problem has arisen whereby the screen flickers a lot while I'm on BBO. Occasionally the screen blacks out entirely for a couple of seconds and then comes back. It's very annoying. Is anyone else having this problem? Can the BBO people say whether it's caused by something at the BBO end? Is there any setting I can adjust to fix it? My computer updated itself a few days ago so that might be part of the problem too, I don't know.

If it matters, my computer is Windows-10 based and I access BBO via Chrome.

Is your desktop background set to a slideshow that changes picture frequently? I am seeing the flickering with slideshow as background. If I turn off the slideshow everything works normally.

Chrome with Windows 8 here. And the screen flickers everywhere for me, not just on BBO, any Chrome window.

no slideshow on background but pb occurs

only on Google Chrome, occurs after last update of Adobe Flash Player for Windows 8.1 x64 (KB4489907)

seems OK on Chromium after uploading and installing Flash Player from Adobe

Is the screen flickering on the new version of BBO too? It's html based, no Flash:

Chrome doesn't use Adobe Flash Player, it has its own built-in Flash player.

But Chrome updated to version 73 a couple of days ago also.

so the bug could be in the built-in Flash player ... or bad implementation in BBO.
as explained issue doesn't occur with Chromium + Adobe Flash Player

This is going to become the main version soon, since Flash is going away next year. So you'll have to get used to it.

This problem isn't just affecting BBO. There are a couple of Reddit threads.

Since Flash is being phased out, we're not making any changes to the Flash version unless they're critical.

Hi
The flickering made flash version of BBO unusable.
And on the other side the html version has a very poor UI (not "cancel" button, french version incorrect, ...)
So if you are not making change, at least advice users and tell that Chromium + Adaobe extension are ok
Regards

I think switching to Chromium would be difficult for most of our users. From what I can tell, it's more for tech geeks than typical users. And bridge players tend to be older and less tech savvy.

Firefox or Edge would probably be better recommendations. But we really want people to start using the new HTML version, it's the future of BBO.

sure, I'll switch to html version, but at the moment the html version is not usable (see above)
Not realy difficult to install Chromium
ok for Firefox but are you sure Firefox will not dispalay this flickering bug ? did you try ?
What I mean is that you have to inform users

ps: I remember 2 or 3 years ago I suggested to give up Flash but some people of your team told on the forum that it is out of your scope.

I'm using Chrome on a Mac and BBO is completely unusable for me - the flashing gives me migraines. Not seeing a problem anywhere else.
The html version I tried a few months ago was horrible, but maybe I'll give it another shot.

(Edit)

I tried turning off hardware acceleration in Chrome, and that seemed to fix things for now at least

I have a Mac, not Windows, it's not having the problem in the first place. But all the reports we got were from Chrome users, and they started when the Chrome 73 update went out.

We had to, Flash is going away next year. Implementing this new version was an enormous amount of work, as expected.
