Hand
IMP challenge standard robots.

A few questions come to mind:
Why wasn't this opened as a pre-empt?
Is 1NT really the correct bid for GIB?
When Gib later bids 3 as 4+ should you really expect 7.
5-10 range isn't my recollection of what a 1NT response to a takeout double is.
Sarcasm is a state of mind

1NT is clearly not a strong enough action with the North hand but GIB doesn't evaluate distributional hands correctly.

It's not relevant to your point but I would simply overcall 1 with the South hand. If your partner can't take action over a 1 overcall, game is highly improbable.
