I was thinking, I dont know if its been done but how about an online Championship!
Theres alot of us TD's it could be done and the compeition would be a lot better.

If theres interest us TD's could make it happen and it would be great for BBO, I dont know is that something OK Bridge has done? We could get some press from it and get it promoted before hand it could only make things better.

Toss it around and post your ideas....I dont know about you but i havent been to a national since 92 and never to a world event.

We could set up some sort of pairs championship and teams full matches not any of this 8 board stuff...so lets think about it...i think it could only be a winner. :)

Whatever competition you try, MAKE IT SHORT ! :)

Short = at most 2 weeks (the shorter, the better).

It is very hard to commit many persons for a long timespan: if that happens, usually there will be a lot of retirments, replacements, etc etc...

i think if you have people who are really interested they will make the committment to the time. I am talking about something like an actual 2-4 session pairs championship. You could do that in 2 days.

At one time, the online college team championship was arranged as a round-robin where the team's pairs played in a IMP pairs event and the 4 teams whose pairs had the highest average score from the pairs event went into a knockout format. The highest average (#1 seed) got to pick which other team they wanted to play in the semi-finals and then it was single elimination. Of course, we did this on a weekend and the timezone issue wasn't so bad but we were able to complete the tournament in one weekend.

I think this is a fast way to do a tournament but I personally prefer the drama and spectacle of a long knock-out event.

well it certainly would be easy to have a pairs championship and either a knock out or some sort of victory point championship for teams.
