How can u get a director at the end of a tournament? We had a pair open 5NT 2nd seat with 4-3-4-2 16 count. Her partner with 4-3-2-4 11 count(2 Aces) passed. Opener listed as expert, partner as intermediate. 5NT making. Unable to put this on record because director wouldn't come.

Sounds like 5NT was a bad misclick. What does 5NT mean? Could mean a lot of entirely different things but without an agreement, I would have no idea. Why would your opponents want to get past game with 27 HCP and 2 flat hands? I would assume responder had never seen a 5NT opener and had no idea what to do, so passed. There is no special bonus for bidding and making 5NT.

Welcome to the forums, nweibe.

If I were to guess, you are concerned that your opponents were playing unethically. The bidding is insane, however it does not mean there is something fishy going on. Instead, if I were to guess, it is possible the other pair was annoyed with each other and were tilting. No one in their sane mind would open 5NT with a 16 count, no one would then pass with a 11 count.

If you are still not convinced, think about it. If some cheats were really operating, why would they bid to 5NT instead of say 3NT? As johnu said in the first reply to your post, there is no special bonus for bidding and making 5NT.

Now it is possible that the bidding flustered you and/or your partner and you conceded a trick or two more than what other tables did. If you didn't (and most tables made 11 tricks or more in NT), then again your side wasn't hurt.

If you want the opponents' bidding investigated for unethical behaviour, you are welcome to email abuse@bridgebase.com. Hope this helps.
