Scoring: IMP

S: 7H doubled
Lead: CK

The late English world class player, John Collings, was known as completely unpredictable at the table, which made his opponents do the strangest things against him.

At some point on this deal North was in 7 doubled by West, but Collings pulled to 7 which funnily enough also got the red card. Believe it or not: Collings landed his grand slam!!?? Wrong, there was no revoke!

How did he accomplish this "impossible" mission? Hidden text will be fine in case more than you would like to give it a go.

This is one of the great ones from a true English bridge legend. I know the answer so I won't give it away. John played semi-regularly at one of our local clubs and I can say that he will be truly missed.

While we are at it, here is another of Collings' inspirational moments at the table:

Dummy
2

Hand
AKQ854

Collings was in dummy for the last time and needed 6 tricks from the suit. Real mortals would naively rely on the suit to break 3-3, but not John. When the 2 was played from dummy, East followed with the 3, and Collings, hold tightly now, finessed the 8!!!

You guessed it; he was spot on because RHO had fallen asleep with J1093! I don't know where John Collings got it from, but there was never a dull moment with him in action.

Bah, I lack of an entry to dummy, I don't see it.
