One of my favorite memories was playing against him and Leah Dupont for 30 boards at the Reno NABC in the 80's and then for the next 30 against him and Belladonna (shortly before he passed).

When any of those 3 shrugged a big pile of class fell off their shoulders and to this day are my role models.

Giovanni and Benito, the strange couple at the worlds of Bridge.
There are 72 years of difference between them: it never happened

Benito has learned to play Bridge during the Second World War and with his cards he has traveled around the world, teaching also at the exclusive Mar-a-Lake of Donald Trump at Palm Beach. John just finished his maturity exam and when he made his first game, he was so small that sitting at the green table did not touch his feet on the ground and he barely kept the fan of the thirteen cards in his hand. Together they form the record-breaking Italian couple at the upcoming Bridge World Championships, which will take place in August in Lyon, France. There are more than seventy years of difference between them. Joining his passion for the most popular card game in the world - with more than a million agonists - born in England and even recognized by the Coni as a sports discipline. A mind sport "that helps keep the brain active," says Benito Garozzo, 90, winner of over twenty international titles and actor Omar Sharif's companion.

"Until a decade I spent almost all the months in Paris playing with him." He is considered to be the strongest player ever and with the young talent Giovanni Donati, 18, was called by the Federation Game Bridge to represent Italy, fifty-six years after his first appearance in blue jersey. It had never happened in the Italian history of the Bridge that a couple with such an age difference appeared in the team. A record born of the case. Five days after World Cup membership expires, two players, Alfredo Versace and Lorenzo Lauria, have withdrawn their availability, hired by Swiss millionaire Pierre Zimmermann to be part of his private team. So the Federation called John and Benito "as a symbol of love for the colors of the nation."
