You are having a wonderful game until this common hand comes up:

MP
Vul vs NV
Non expert field

KQTX=QTXX=J=KJT9

Part 1) What is your bid and why?
1C=1D=X=2D
?

Part 2) What is your bid and why?
Assuming you bid nonpass in part 1:
1C=1D=X=2D
??=3D=P=P
??

My answer to Part 1 is 3♦ (partner you choose which major), which obviates my need to answer Part 2. :)

We have a known double fit (in my methods), so we should be safe at the 3 level.

3d?

How strong or weak is 3D? What is p suppose to bid over 3D with what range?

So if p bids 3 level you must pass?
So if p bids 4 level you must pass?
How do they show a slam invite?

1. Double = I have both majors, choose one.
2. Double = I still have both majors, choose one, or pass* if you want to defend now that you know that we have all side suits.

*) Pass is really only an option at pairs.

Some play that X of 1♦ doesn't promise more than 4-3 in the majors. If that is your agreement, responder will have an easier pass if he has that shape.

Double 1st round (take-out), pass 2nd round.

I don't bid 3D 1st round because that should show a hand in the med-max range, and I have only a min.

I won't press on 2nd round because I have bid my hand when I doubled 2D. Pass may turn out wrong, but I'm willing to trust pard he has done the right thing in passing 3D as well. Ok, I know trusting pard is a dangerous thing, but at least sometimes you have to do it :)

Assuming, I have
4 Clubs,
4 Diamonds,
1 Heart
4 Spade:

1) 2 Spade
2) Pass, although the Law may be in favour of 3S,
after all, you are short in diamond and your
honour distribution is "pure".

Marlowe, hands are always shown ♠ first. So a 4-4-1-4 is 4♠s, 4♥s, 1♦ and 4♣s.

I Dbl and keep doubling. When I dbl in 1st round I limit my hand to a minimum...

1) 2♠
2) 3♥ or maybe pass.

If p's double shows only 4-3 in the majors, then 1) double, of course. Otherwise I don't see why you would double with this hand when you have a natural alternative. (Except that if pd has ♦K you want him to declare).

In this case, since for me, the partners double promises
4-4 in the mayor.

1) 2S, since my spades are stronger
2) 3H, giving partner the chance to correct, because of the
double fit and the shortness in diamond

Swich my mayor suit holdings and I would bid

1) 2H
2) 3H,because of the
double fit and the shortness in diamond

1) 2♥ since the double of my partner promises 4♥
2) 3♥ given the ♦ shortness

I x first time, showing both majors, and then pass if p will not compete to the three level. I am not going for 200 in 3Mx.

Part 0. I wouldn't have opened the bidding.
Part 1. 2S
Part 2. Pass. Partner heard me last time.

Ditto, ditto, ditto.

I would not open an aceless 4441, without 2 Quick Tricks, 11 hcp with bad suits, and especially at UNFAVORABLE vuln.
4441 can often lead to troubles, I'll pass this one unless 3rd hand opener.

If I had to open, I'll bid 2S and leave any action to pard; 2S may be already high enough red vs white.

Partner should have the majors
1) 2♥, i prefer to have honors in the suit that is not trump.
2) pass, we have no business on the 3 level

As for doubling 2D, it's obviously a matter of partnership agreement what it should mean, but personally I don't play it as 4-4 in the majors. In my methods, partner's double of 1D promised at least 4-4 in the majors (otherwise he'd just bid one of them), and usually exactly 4-4 unless he's very weak. So I don't need to double 2D to show majors as well, I just bid one of them as I have a guaranteed 8-card fit. If I played the first double as potentially 4-3 in the majors (why?) then double here would show both majors, I agree.

I would also use double of 2D to be "take-out", but that's likely to be more balanced. Playing strong NT I'd be more likely to have something like

Kxx
Kxx
xx
AQJxx

that is happy to compete in 2M or 3C, but isn't sure where.

Playing weak NT, I'm stuck for a bid over 2D holding
Kxx
AJx
Kxx
AQxx
which feels it has too many values to pass, but nothing to bid.

Or either way I could have a stronger (semi)-balanced hand that will bid again.

1) X. bid a major (i think this is the common treatment).
2) X. Dude i told you to pick a freaking major.

I haven't won alot at matchpoints by selling out to 3D with a double fit in the majors and a singleton diamond.

1. Double
2. Pass

Pard is 4441 and leading a stiff club. I think we're beating 3♦.

I don't think the 2nd double should be takeout anyway. If you want to play 3 of a major, just bid 3♥. Double should be cooperative - maybe: AKxx, Kxxx, Ax, xxx
