MP, Instant, 34

This barely qualifies as worth a mention, perhaps.

I took a view that I did not want to sell out to 4S at this vul and scoring. OK, masterminding. Guilty.

And yet, despite the bad diamond break, I should get out for 500 in 5C or 5D both at double dummy and in practice. Sure, they may find 5S but I would rather give them that option.

Of course, it is a bit lucky that my instinct to sacrifice would have worked. The unseen cards could have been different.

Double of 4S would have been takeout. Only it shows 18+ total points. That may be a reasonable requirement. I don't have a strong opinion. The one player in the tournament who took that risk ended up defending 4SX+1. I don't have a lot of sympathy, given the system requirement.

But 4N (by South over 4S) would have been Blackwood in Clubs. WHAT??
