IMP

Partner will have a solid preempt and KQ 7th for his bid.

5c

Odds are miniscule p would have begun with x Axx(x?) x(x) KQT9876 The only holdings that would make 6h look good.
Bidding 3h to search for this teeny tiny itty bitty slam chance make it easier for lho to bid 4d Or rho to x a 4d splinter from p which in turn makes it far easier for the opps to bid (and possibly make) 5d. Just go for maximum preemption in your most likely game spot.

If new suit bids are forcing, I'm bidding 3 . If partner doesn't support and bids 4 , then I'll feel more comfortable bidding 5 .

The problem is finding partner with xxx and having the opponents cash 3 tricks -- either the honors or some combination honors and a ruff in a 5 contract. But if partner doesn't support , then partner probably has a doubleton at most and 5 is a bit safer.

The downside is that it may enable the opponents to enter the auction in . OTOH, a bid might deter a lead.

If new suits are not forcing, I'd bid an immediate 5 .

But what are the odds of KJx, void, xxx, KQ10xxxx making 7 laydown ? not great, but Kx, x, xxx, KQxxxxx is very plausible for 6.

I think I'd bid 5, but it can easily be wrong.

Why do you think what do you like ? This bidding that is lower among these ones has excluded S and partner could have anything more the KQ7th with rest of points divide in N. Can they make more ?

This is why I play new suits as forcing. We don't have to have slam interest to prefer a heart contract to a club one.

I can see that 11 tricks are almost certainly easy if partner has the K. I don't see how we get 11 tricks if partner doesn't. There are unlikely to be (non-trump) entries to hand to ruff diamonds, and a trump lead would make life very difficult.

All true. But for now, bid 5 ; you don't have to worry about the play because you won't be Declarer. It might not even matter whether you make 5 or not. The opponents still have a guess at the 5-level because you didn't screw around and give them any extra room.

The only reason I would bid 3 here is to see if partner can NOT support them (we support on 2 most often) and then blast 6 planning to ruff the hearts good with enough entries to use them.

A little too far out there but give me the K instead of the Queen or let partner show it with a 3 bid ......so I'll settle for 5 especially as our preempts are not as disciplined.

I would bid 5C without much thinking about it. If forced to think about it I would figure the opponents might well be able to cash two hearts, and even if they cannot I am skeptical of 12 tricks. I think 11 tricks are very likely So 5C.
