No fancy agreements, 4M to play, 5M invitational, 4NT should be natural but partner will take it as RKCW for diamonds.

Follow up questions will come.

I'd double now, and would regard this dble as GF, so if your partner responds 4d that is forcing. If partner bids something other than 4d I am going to drive a slam. If he bids 4d I will bid 4S and give up.

I rank
1. Double. Intending to bid 4 over 4 like phil_20686.
2. 4. Fearing bad breaks.
3. 6. Brave.

Double. My 3_card club suit should guard against partner passing for penalties. :)

Few will have an agreement about this sequence. So we must assume our expert partner is on our side and try to interpret his intentions. 2 possible meanings:
  • Major support and a good hand e.g. K x x x K Q x x A K Q x x -
  • Club control and good s e.g. K K x x A K Q J T x x x -

Now I rank
  • 7N. Landy slam try. (Whatever partner has, he should have a good hand).
  • 6N. Ditto but allow some wriggle room.
  • 5N. Take Fluffy's advice and transfer the blame.
  • 6. Ditto.
  • 6. A practical shot if partner bids with Tramtickets :)
  • Pass. Expose the psych :)

5NT (pick a slam)

If partner bids 6 I bid 6.
If partner bids 6 I bid 7 and over 7 I bid 7. This hopefully suggests that I do not know whether we should play 7 or 7.
If partner bids 6 I raise.

Do you mean this? If 4 is GF, is this not stronger than 5? I might drive to a slam over 4 but not 5.

On the given problem, 5

What do you think is the best auction on the hand?

I will provide mine, but I don't think it is worth much. IMO 4NT should be natural, but I knew partner didn't intend it that way. I should had also bid 7NT at some point.

No 4d is just what you do when you have opened a wk NT with 3343 or something, and you want to make sure that responder will bid a 5cM if he has one. wk NT opposite 5-4 or even 5-3 in the majors is just so common here that its worth a bid just to transfer the problem back.

4N surely showed a good hand with two places to play, so usually 6-4 ish in diamonds and a major. After 6d surely east knows for sure that west has a v good hand with hearts and diamonds, so why not try 7H?
