Yes, I misplayed the hand, BUT is the description of 2 wrong, or is this just a 'view'? Every GIB auction starting with 1NT went the same exact way. 3NT is a lucky make, but I still don't want to be there on this hand.

I think you are under-evaluating South's hand by bidding 1NT 15-17, its more like 18.

Though the confusion of HCP and TP probably hits again with GIB's bidding.

If you have a distributional hand with major suit length and about 7 HCP opposite a 15-17 1N opener, you may have game interest opposite a decent major suit fit and yet be rather pessimistic about a 3N game absent that fit. This is a difficult quandary for human players, let alone GIB, unless you have a bespoke method of showing such a hand type, which GIB does not, and neither do most humans.

It may be prudent to treat sequences such as
1N-2C-2D-2?
1N-2C-2S-2N

as being potentially shy of a point, responder having initiated a game try in the forlorn hope of a major fit, particularly in the first sequence if opener's rebid is 2M.

1N-2C-2H-2N would be an exception. There responder knows that there is no major fit before responding, but has only that route to invite.

Whatever, this does not rank as a priority for the programmers, in my view.

Oh, and I think that the 1N opener is fine. And you showed a max later, which is also fine.

If North really shows 9 HCPs (or even 8), then 3NT is right of course. But realistically, 2 can be hand like the actual North hand, and then maybe 2NT is enough. 2NT already shows extra values, with a minium South would pass. North can pass 2NT with this hand but would raise with a tad more.

What is
1NT-2
2-2
by the way? Maybe 5-5 invitational in the gib system. I thought expert standard was to bid the invitational hands this way so the way GIB bid here shows a weak hand.

3 (or 4) would be the hero bid by South by the way :)
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket
