All Vul, Matchpoints
you hold:

x
KJ93
x
AKT7653

LHO opens 4S, partner doubles (Optional) , passed to you. Your bid?

Will it differ if it's imps?

(You do not have a agreement on what 4NT is here. So logic rules if you choose to bid it  )

5NT: pick a slam. If pd bid 6D, I would correct it to 6H.

I'll take it that "optional" means some kind of strong NT hand. Such hand has 4 cover cards, so 6C should make.

With less confidence than whereagles I bid 6.

It is not impossible we are off an ace and a club trick. But, it is only matchpoints after all. In deciding to bid 6 an understanding of who the vulnerable 4 bidder is might play into the decision process. The more sound a bidder (solid suit) he is, the more confident I am in 6. The wilder he is (broken yucky suit), the less confident and more likely I would take the money.

5C.

They got you. This would be easier playing IMP's, but playing pairs
going plus and getting 600 will be better than going minus and / or
getting only 500.

6C. I have no sympathy for 5H or 5N pick a slam. Partner doesn't guarantee 4 hearts and even if he has them, a 4-1 or 5-0 split is quite likely on the bidding.

6C for me too. Only alternative that came to mind was 5C, but I like my chances for 6.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
