Why is gib preferring to bid clubs over spades?

This does nothing to help find the best game.

4S is 100% better than 4C. Even 3S is better than 4C.

4C is simply a pointless bid.

Looks like you're new here. We've been complaining about this for years. Don't know why it isn't higher priority in relationship to other stuff they've fixed.

GIB V28 is here:

Main Changes:
    <snip>
  • GIB will now show major first with 4M-5m in response to partner's balancing double at 3rd level or higher.

I guess this should also apply when responding to partner's direct takeout double.

why not also at 2 level?

it should cuebid and correct 4h to 4s to show spades and clubs rather than punting game in a 4 card suit.

why not also at the 1 level? and with 4-6 shape?

If it wants to suppress the 4cd major with 4-7, then OK I guess.

At the 1-level with 4-6 shape I can live with showing the 6 carder, in the expectation that the auction is unlikely to die there and I should get a chance to show both, and then more descriptively.

I don't know about this. If something like 1R-x-p-2c, I think it's not unlikely to go all pass.

Not if a direct double by North over 3H would have been other than penalties.

Thanks for reporting.

I hope this issue is fixed. At least cannot be replicated now and major comes first.

Both hands in question are bidding now 3M.

Your double is correct. Bidding 3 should show some sort of monster 6-5 hand. Though I expect Gib probably has it as 5-4 with 23 pts which should still be a nice double in imho.

Playing with you it should, but playing with 98% of GIB's partners it shouldn't.
