My link

Matchpoints, ACBL robot individual

Four questions:

1. What is the point of of North's 3 bid? According to the notes, it shows the same number of s and 1 more point than its 1 bid.
2. Would 3 by North not have been forcing (and infinitely more descriptive)?
3. Why would North opt for an 11-trick game (especially at matchpoints) when it can count 7 tricks in NT looking its own hand (6 + 1) while only accounting for 7 HCP in my hand?
4. Since North overruled me and essentially decided on the final contract after my 3 bid, why did it take the scenic route instead of just bidding 5 directly?

I can imagine some sims that place 5C as superior to 3N, and unlikely to be reached without unilateral action by North, but I pass on whether that is a long term winner. It would surprise me a bit if 3N wins out by a country mile.

Generally however I agree with other comments, and having bid 3S presumably angling for 3N it should then respect 3N choice.

3S seems fine as an attempt to reach 3NT. It shouldn't require much extra after your jump to 3C. But very valid question, if that were the case why not leave it there.

I certainly interpreted 3 as an attempt to reach 3NT when North bid it. In the context of the subsequent auction, though, the bid is a complete mystery.
