Robots as a learning tool

If our Robots did NOT (attempt to) play 2 over 1 they would be highly valued tool for Beginners and Intermediates trying to learn the more common conventions. Even if they played 2 over 1 with some accuracy it would help. It's just a shame that they are so unreliable in bidding.

I don't think 2/1 is the problem. The robots do reasonably well in uncontested auctions. Competitive auctions are very poorly defined in many cases, and these would be the same using 2/1, SAYC, or any other system.

Also, even the "common" conventions generally have loads of variants these days. So I think it is better to learn conventions with your partner, so you are both on the same page. This way you will also most likely learn the variant that is popular in your area, so that you can play the same with a variety of partners.
