I know... GIB decides it doesn't matter and plays "randomly", but there's no reason to make it easier for me to pick up the 5-0 split.

I recall that Uday once reported that it uses an (ahem) intelligent algorithm for card play but only kicking in at trick 3 or so.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

"Gentlemen, when the barrage lifts." 9th battalion, King's own Yorkshire light infantry,
2000 years earlier: "morituri te salutant"

"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq

And I was just thinking that I had not seen any of these helpful (to the declarer) high spot card throwaways on defense recently. But actually this is a slightly different problem. GIB almost invariably splits honors or spot cards where its only/best chance to take more tricks is to play low. But this is a problem that I concede would be hard to fix, there is no scientific substitute for bridge judgement to know when a split is necessary and when it is suicidal.

And I don't suppose there is a way to teach GIB that its opponents are not playing double dummy.

There have been other discussions about "random" GIB plays that shouldn't matter double dummy based on 100% accurate bidding. I still say make GIB always play the lowest card (or one of lowest of equals) when just following suit in the absence of more sophisticated card play. Maybe an advanced or expert declarer may be able to make a better play based on that knowledge some small percentage of time, but so what? Certainly it is better than GIB throwing away probable tricks for no good reason.

Only for advanced bots and only as declarer. For defense it is still assuming double dummy. Getting these things right require defenders to simulate a single-dummy declarer which is apparently too slow.
