1) Opening bid is much better than my normal.
2) Can handle any opening lead partner intelligently chooses.
3) Lefty will be playing this entirely out of his own hand (No dummy entries likely).

If I don't pass this double, what DOES it take to pass?

bidding would be beyond absurd.

you can only pull here if you opened a sub-minimal hand because of extra-shape, or if you've got a strong hand with extra shape that you need to jump with immediately to describe. key phrase: 'extra-shape'. key fact about your hand: 'balanced mush'

Hmm OK. Dunno why I felt insecure with South's hand and I pulled. It was right to pass - opps had nowhere to run and 1NT fails.

Yes, it is exceptional to pull in this spot. You can pull if you opened a 9-count in 3rd seat, or with a hand that is pretty worthless in defense unless partner finds the unlikely lead, say with

Thanks. I think that's where my judgement failed. Felt the hand was too "suit oriented" to pass - but it wasn't. I'll remember the "balanced mush" tip for the future :P

You lost your mind on this one D! Were you nervous of your opps or something (serious question, some people seem scared to defend doubled vs great players)? I would fist pump while passing and licking my chops personally.

You're probably right, although I didn't realize it at the table. Opps were much stronger than me - this was one of the all-star team matches on BBO . I guess somewhere deep down I was afraid if I make a mistake in defense they'll exploit it so that lead to my feeling safer declaring than defending at this level. I was wondering why I pulled myself, that's why I posted the hand, to help me clear my thoughts and pinpoint what went wrong. I knew all the stuff agua listed and still wanted to run. Gotta be more confident to do the right thing :)
