NV vs Vul - you are in 4th seat. Important as in 1st seat here you play a 10-12 NT

You hold
x
KQJx
Kxxx
KJxx

You play a 4 card M system if that is important for you to know - your call?

PASS, "plusschreiben und gewinnen". That's German (with a little twist) for "don't enter the scores in the away column".

If partner has the spades, we are likely to go down. If opps have them, they will outbid us.

I open 1H, though pass is attractive if you're playing undisciplined weak 2s.

Opps may have spades, but unless the fit is 9-card, they'll break badly.

What NT range do we play in 2nd seat?

If the auction is three passes to me, I'm content to pass this one out and move on.

Pass, wtp?

If the hand had been slightly stronger I would probably open 1, planing to rebid 1NT (btw, what notrump interval applies in 4th seat?). This is a mater of style: partner knows my 1NT rebids can be off-shape so she doesn't rebid a 5-card.

Btw, German is a very strange language. How can "plusschreiben" mean "to write a zero"?

I'm not going to pass this hand I accept a possible bad outcome. I open 1d or 1h depending on what the system dictates.
Usually I'm reluctant to open not strong hands with short spades in 4th position but this hand has a lot of offensive values and I like that we can play in three suits.

Because a zero is a clear plus compared to 100, 110, 140 to the enemy.

So I prefer to keep "plusschreiben und gewinnen" :)

Passers win on this hand. The opps had a S partial which was found by my teammates at the other table. Its amazing how many players think they have to open because they have 13 points in this position.

Roland, es freut mich, dass Du so viel plusschreibst. (Ich glaube wir koennen uns duzen.)

This hand just showed up on RGB: 2 KQJ4 KQ72 QT83. It was also in 4th position. You wouldn't have gotten the honors wrong just a bit, would you?

No. It wasn't my post on rgb. Seems like a strange coincidence. Mine came up in a match early this week. I passed it in but it was opened at the other table. Possibly easier for me as we play a 10-12 NT in first and second nv and I knew pd couldn't have much.

Ron:

I thought you didn't like the mini-NT.

What system are you playing which uses it?

We are playing a 4 card M system, big C, 10-12 NT in 1st and 2nd nv otherwise 14-16. Virtually identical to Auken von Arnim's system.

Must admit the mini is proving to be an imp magnet so far, maybe I will have to revise my views.

That looks like most interesting system to come along in long time. Have only seen it in action on few hands. Please let us know your results and thoughts of plus and minus of system. Thank you in advance.

NP.
I wanted to play transfer openings Moscito style, but pd wanted natural openings. Open good 10+ hands

1D = usually 3, but can be 2 if 3325
Over this 1H = relay or natural
1M - 2C = gf relay with emphasis on strong bal hands or minor(s)
1H - 2D = invit+ H raise
1S - 2D = invit+ H, 2H = invit+ S raise, 2N = nat 11 to-13

2C = 10-15 C
2D/H/S/N = Tutti Frutti

I like it, Mike, but it needs a lot of discussion after 3 card invit+ raises.

All I know is they kill in Bridge World. Of course at the table I assume you are getting alot more nuisance overcalls so look forward to any reports you post.
