Both of these hands have the same basic problem.. lack of fit for p's second suit.
In the first hand xxx is worst possible holding, in the 2nd the singlton would be a much better feature if you held a 4th spade.
Overbidding due to poor hand evaluation leading to bad result.
..also agree with Ben about 3c rebid on hand 2 .. it's too pushy with weak suits.

1) Looks fine to me.
2) Agree with Ben that 3C was too much. If you don't play his methods, then it's tough after 1S-1N-2C-3S. If you play the first cue bid is first round controls, as you know pd won't have an ace, and probabaly doesn't have a void. Check for the SK, and go if he's got it.

This may be double-dummy bidding.

I agree with justin that the balancing hand should bid 2S for the first hand. 4H was a poor choice and gives up on a possible slam. Why the other hand bid over 4H is a mystery to me.

The second hand the j/s is poor and just not what a j/s shows for me. How the other hand can take over with key card with that H holding is no mystery, it's hopeless!

1) 4h or michaels. Will pass over 4h not cue.
2) If we assume the wimpy 1nt reply and 2c rebid:
I would bid 4s not 3s. Thought 3s is only a strong invite on this bidding?

On board #1, I would bid 2S (michaels). But 4H was OK, too. The bad bid, imo, is 5♦. 3 small cards in ♣ was not good, and ♦K wouldn't help much.

On board #2, West's hand was borderline, 1N/2D or even 4C (lack of 4th trump). 3C was certainly a bad bid. I would rebid 2C.
