Hi all

I suppose it is called American system defensive signals, or something alike.

If playing Actitude, Count, Preference on partner's high card lead on suit contracts.

Partner leads Ace, and I have 832 so 2: negative actitude

If p then plays King, now the count is given, but, this is the question:

The count signal is given with the residue?: so high from 83, or from the full holding: 3 because the first one was the 2, or it doesn't matter?
Maybe there is no standard procedure?

Thank very much
Kind Regards,
Paul_S

"Standard" present count, so high from 2 remaining, is the most common agreement. Though on some hands depending on the bidding and dummy the second signal might be construed as suit preference instead of count. Especially if you were say known to have exactly 3 at this point and not 4+ or whatever.

I've been playing UDCA throughout with one partner for a while now.

He talked me into it.

I can say with certainty that one problem my game does not have (it has many others) is signalling, counting and discarding.

I'm hooked!

I don't think any defensive signaling system that might be common in the US has been named, much less named "American Standard" (which, btw, is the name of a company that makes toilets). B-)

So maybe you could respond specifically to the question, as Stephen_Tu did?
UDCA specifies how count and attitude are encoded, but I'm not sure that covers all the bases here.

Since UDCA covers all bases regarding count and attitude, I thought I had answered the specific question about count.

The only thing that UDCA doesn't contain is suit preference. We only play that in obvious situations. e.g. Partner leads an Ace against a suit contract and a singleton appears in dummy. Now the attitude normally asked for with the lead of an Ace is irrelevant. SP is usually required.

UCDA frequently involves discarding what you don't want without necessarily giving anything away about the other two suits - unlike suit preference. So, while partner still has to work out which of the other two suits you want, so does declarer.

Ps. I'm not sure what OP means by "full holding".
