MP, best hand South, advanced robots, Instant tourney

I realised that 2S only promises 4+ Spades in the explanation. I just did not believe it. Maybe I should, because with 65432 it would always transfer.

At the time I figured that the only chance of a good score is if partner had a 5th spade or someone else bid again. If I bid 2N would North then bid 3C? And would that be canapé?

But the point of my post is that I don't think that North should be bidding 2S on this hand. Sure there will be hands when it works. I am happy to back down if my betters think that robot is close to reasonable..

Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

This auction by the robot is very reasonable. Indeed, 2S shows exactly 4 with a longer minor and you should bid 2nt, then pass 3C.

Would GIB in fact pull 2NT to 3C?

OK now I know. thanks.

Just a shame that the alert shows 4+ Spades and makes no mention of 2nd suit, longer or otherwise.

But system aside, when LHO has expressed an interest in doubling 1N for penalties, and you have 3 of the opponent's trumps and an outside singleton which you can lead at trick 1, are you not happier to defend 2H than possibly venture to 3C on a 5 card suit?

Sure, defending seems likely to work fine with this hand. However, bidding 2S with a two suited hand wit ha side suit singleton is very reasonable, especially non-vul. Rather unlucky this hand that their partner only has 2 spades. Would have worked out much better next time when the opener has 4 spades and 2 hearts.

Might not South re-open with X on such a hand? Sure he may be put off by the earlier X by East, but to compensate for that effect West did pull his partner's double.

Same hand, different topic... I really hate the description of the 2 bid.
