More interesting is that GIB E does not lead the ♦8 to trick 11.
This only makes sense if GIB E thinks that all 3 tricks belong to his side.
Than it makes no difference which card is played.


The only reasonable explanation would be that GIB W was sure that North has to have the A.
North has shown 6 of his 8-11 HCP up to trick 11 that leaves room enough for any of Q and A but not both.

And if per chance North had both H:AQ then West's play makes no diff.

I can explain your hand, Lycier, I think.

In order to have the 15+ total points that you had promised in the bidding, you required to hold Diamond Q.

With that card, there is no defence. If it continues with Diamonds, you win the Queen that you are expected to hold, then Heart to Ace, ruff Heart, and you have Club Ace entry to established Heart to discard your only remaining Club.

The Club King is almost a half hearted attempt at Merrimac coup, to cut you off from ruffing the Hearts good.

In any case

1) I personally cannot get excited about Basic GIB errors, except where the same programming is involved in advanced GIB. I appreciate that basic GIB may have its place in the market so perhaps should not be ignored, but I leave that to others. But using it as example to compare with advanced GIB is out of place. My example was, as I said at the outset, advanced GIB, and we expect slightly better.

2) As mentioned earlier in this thread, the human in my hand was dummy, so there is no effect of possible departure from GIB bidding, except possibly on opening lead before dummy is exposed, but in any case the human was entirely within GIB expectations.

3) There is a difference between trick 8 and trick 11. Stupid mis-defences should drop off exponentially as the play progresses. By trick 11 GIB probably has time to simulate every possibly layout of the remaining cards and every possible sequence of plays that result from each layout.
