Making the right bid here led to a poor result, while all the poor choices worked out fine.

ACBL Robot MP Tourney, You hold AQ63, 8, KQ2, QJ982. and with the opps silent it goes 1C by you, 1D, 1S by you and 2H by partner. Your call??

Yes, unlucky it was, but not the lie of the cards. 3D is the only bid worthy of consideration. My GIB partner, holding KJxx, Kx, AJxxxx, x bid 4D!! Never showed the Spade fit. I had little choice to bid 5D, making but a poor MP result. Those who made the inferior rebids with my hand of 3C or 2NT got GIB to bid 4S. Those who bid 3NT bought a pass, but with the HA onside made 11 tricks on that lead for a top.
