Playing with a world-classer (first time you've played with him; have kibitzed him many times) in a TG last night:

Scoring: IMP

1 on your left, 1 by pard, pass on right, you pass. LHO doubles, pass, pass.....

Do you pull?

I think you gave me the wrong infomation... ok partner is world class, but the question is what about my RHO. Is he someone who would pass this takeout double lightly? Expereience has shown when it goes like this, 1 is in a lot of trouble if RHO is not a beginner.

So while I would generally like to pass and have my World Class partner at the helm, as no doublt he will play it a trick better than me, my hand might produce 4 club tricks in clubs but no tricks in spades. I know he didn't double. I know he might have six spades and four hearts... but I don't care. I am gong to pull this double to two clubs hoping for 3/4 club tricks in my hand and the two to three tricks that can be expected (hoped) from his hand. This gives 2 an expectation of one or two down. I think 1 is surely going down at least two and maybe more.

As always i am prepared to apologize when if this is horribly wrong.

2C for me. I make 0-1 tricks playing spades and 3-4 tricks playing clubs.

I have learned that when good players double you at the 1-level for penalties they are usually right. I would bid 2C (quickly).
