I might or might not have the restraint to not force to game here, but this does seem to show an advantage to Bergen raises. After 1-3 opener has a choice of 3, or 4, or 3. I regard 3 as a flexible bid. If responder rebids 3 opener is allowed to pass, the 3 was non-minimal but less than enough to insist on game. . If responder rebids 3 and opener raises to 4, the 3 is to be re-interpreted as a slam try. I have always assumed that the main reason for reverse Bergen, where 3 is the limit raise, is the preservatoin of this in-between option when hearts are trump.

I often decline to play Bergen in pick-up games because these advantages are only usable if they have been discussed. But as long as they are understood, I see this as a big plus for bergen raises.
