Keycard strangeness Which trump suit?

1 - NMF, shows 12+ HCP
2 - 3 spades
3 - natural, 4+ hearts. Forcing to game.

Now 4NT by responder is keycard for spades, despite the heart raise showing four. Why would that be? Aren't we more interested in the strength of the 4-4 fit?
As an aside, isn't it better to show 4 cards in the other major before 3 card support?
