Mainstream 2/1.

Result: 5CX-2/+500 vs. 5SX=/-850, lose 8

Let's focus on assessing any blame at this table and ignore the impact of teammates double.

I like 4 instead of 3 by N. South has already stretched to bid 4/3 expecting to make so I think the X is reasonable. I think N should bid 5 over 5 given partner has X and bid 4.

Getting 500 is ok, so what is the point in discussing?

5S makes, i.e. we would loose 150 on the board, who would ever cry about loosing 150 points
on a high level decison.
How do you feel the discussion would go, if 5S-1 would have been the result, still getting 500
in 5C? If there really would be a discussion, I would know, what to do: leaving the team.

Discussing the is board is a waste of time.

With kind regards
Marlowe

PS: Regarding 4S instead 3S - I have no strong feeling. 3S looks ok for me, but we play,
that the X facing a passed hand can be weaker that in direct seat, i.e. jumping to 4S
risks going down vs. nothing, espesially since we have hearts I dont have the fear, that
they will out bid us.
With kind regards
Uwe Gebhardt (P_Marlowe)

I'm not assessing blame here because I think it's a tough hand. Certainly bd71 has a point that North might have bid 4 directly over 3. This might help. South also missed an opportunity. As the auction went, after East bid 4 South could have bid 4 on the way to 4. This might well help North to get it right when they have to choose over. 5.

I think it's tough all around.

At imps I make the north hand a mandatory 4 call with a stiff club let alone a void and that makes the south decision to take the money in 5X opposite a passed hand partner a very reasonable decision.
When a deaf person goes to court is it still called a hearing?

Seems like a good hand to blame on system - if North opens 2 and South raises to 4 the opps probably cannot get together quickly enough to find their sac. That said, if South overcalls 1 rather than doubling, this makes life much easier for North.

Would have overcalled 1 rather than X, not sure what that does, but suspect 5 doesn't get back to me to X.
