Hi all,

I recently thought about some App concepts for learning / playing Bridge.
What I currently found on Google Play (App Store will be investigated soon :) )
was in a very wide range, concerning quality of the program or degree of difficulty.

What are your experiences ? Do you use books to learn ? How often do you use apps, if any ?

If you would write me about your experiences, this would be great,

Kind regards,
Ben.

I think it depends on each person's learning style. For me quizzes, bid/play apps, and "learn by doing" has always worked much better than reading, but I have friends who learn better by reading.

Welcome to the BBO forums, Ben.

I have no experience with bridge apps. However, there are a number of commercial CD's that teach bridge issues that are very good, I could discuss those with you if you like, or you can read about some of them in the bridge material review forum. Then there is online content. BBO has a bunch of free bridge movies at this link (BBO Movies) . The quality of the material varies a bit, but a lot of them are very good. Another great resource is the Deal of the week archive you can find at bridgebase deal of the week. And of course, there are a lot of places on line that are nice, I am fond of our user "fluffy's website, his practice hands are good, I don't know about his courses. And of course, when you are logged into the bbo gaming site, try the free bridge masters hands from the main menu.

There is no doubt that interactive lessons are a very strong way to learn to improve your game.... especially if combined with good advice.

You can find some useful threads on this topic, including this one, with this google search:

learn play OR improve play site:bridgebase.com/forums

Apps by Fred Gitelman, Mike Lawrence, Larry Cohen, Kit Woolsey are good. Bridge Master is my favorite. Not sure if any of them run on Apple or Android.

Kit Woolsey's columns on bridgewinners.com are excellent. So are Phillip Martin's.

hi y66,
yes, Bridge Master is also my favorite for windows.

Something similar can be found on google play and is called "Bridge Kid".

If something similar would exist for defense play , this would be awesome.
I guess, this is what could improve MY play very much :)

Here's one you can try. It's called Defend These Hands With Richard Pavlicek.

Go to bridgebase/myhands, find hands for rfp, click on a hand that he's defending, click on his seat to hide other hands, then try to figure out what he'll do before you click next. Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to step through the play one card at a time.

Pavlicek has some quizzes on defense on his site that are good.
