red at imps I'm waiting until they limit their hands before coming in but may well come in at the 3 level when they do.

If the 1nt bidder has 11 and/or the opener has extras you could be looking at 4 digits with that suit quality and pointed suit aces behind you.

TBH, nothing besides 2H would seriously occur to me at the table. Passing here allows the opponents to steal our contract far too often, and losing 10 for not bidding our game will happen much more than losing 12-15 for -1100.

If I pass now and bid later, it will be clearer and easier for them to double me when it's right.

At this vulnerability nothing but pass is sensible. NV I would bid 2H.

pass for many reasons

1. auction is not ending here so I am not overly concerned about getting stolen blind If the opps

show weakness I have few problems reentering the bidding.

2. it does not take much to get a horrendous score here at IMPS opposite a possible part score too much risk

and with partner silent so far having trouble seeing the reward at this point.

3. could be a crappy lead director if p ends up on lead.

the 3 main reasons for bidding all seem to be missing with still a ton of risk where did I put my green card?

I jump overcall as aggressively as anyone but this one is just too big a step - the risk : reward is just bad here. 2 on possibly a working 6 count looks pretty bad to me even when it is the majority choice. I would have expected about a 3 to 1 in favour of passing in the real world but forum hands change the odds somewhat.

I think many people forget that "Pass" is one of the most powerful bids in the game--especially at the right moments. They are white, we are not; My suit is bad and the situation is not worth a fight. It is very risky and rates to at best, try to interfere with a non-vul game. I will balance 2 if 2 of a minor is passed back to me. But it probably won't be.

I bid 2
"Genius has its own limitations, however stupidity has no such boundaries!"
"It's only when a mosquito lands on your testicles that you realize there is always a way to solve problems without using violence!"

"Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say."

I am not usually surprised when the "always active" posters stay in character on these polls. This time, at these colors, I am surprised.

Maybe I am further biased by what I think a forcing NT might contain...a non-fit for spades and a lot of power.

Enjoy collecting -1100s with nothing on for them? Overcall 2H in this spot 100 times. You'll get a lot of telephone numbers.

Lord Molyb I enjoy your posts and think your comments are great but I couldn't disagree more on this reply. My vote would be: Pass = 0, 2 = -5, 3 = -50.

What do you stand to preempt here? The opponents have already communicated that they hold the cards 90% of the time and don't have a fit. Lefty will double when it's right, bid a minor when it's right, and pass to his partner when it's right--and that partner will do the right thing regardless. You rate to escape the gauntlet from time to time, go down a lot frequently, and preempt their bidding dialog almost never. The suit is weak and at least one of your kings is in the wrong place. Partner could come down with a 9-count and you still could go for -1100 if those points are mostly in clubs.
